2024 Scholarship Application

The Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity, Inc. is proud to announce the 2024 Scholarship Application for the 2024 - 2025 academic year is open to current high school seniors who are School District of Philadelphia, Philadelphia Charter School and Achievement Academy students planning to enroll at bachelor degree offering institutions in the Fall of 2024.

This scholarship is for young men of color who are seniors in high school in the Philadelphia, PA area. The application is open Monday April 15, 2024 for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  The application deadline is midnight on Sunday May 26, 2024.
 Please ensure applicants complete the entire application (the application, the checklist and any requested attachments).

How to Apply

To apply you must complete three (3) steps:

  1. Complete & Submit The Checklist
  2. Complete & Submit The Application.
  3. Make sure you have completed and submitted both The Checklist and The Application.

The Checklist is your guide to completing your 2024 Scholarship Application. When all items are completed and checked and the signatures are received, the application can be submitted to the Scholarship Committee Chairman.

The Application is a series of questions and information about the Applicant that will allow the Scholarship Committee to make their award determinations.

Step 1: Complete the Checklist

You must complete and check each item on the 2024 Scholarship Checklist. The completed checklist, the requested documentation & publication suitable photo must be submitted with the application to be considered for any scholarship award.

  • Download and print the checklist
  • Neatly & clearly write your responses to each item with black ink
  • Procure signatures from the Applicant, School Officials & Parents/Guardians
  • Attach the supported documentation including:
    • Original Personal Essay
    • Copy of official high school transcript
    • Copy of SAT and/or ACT Scores
    • Publication Quality Suitable Photo

Step 2: Complete the Application

You must respond to each and every question on the 2024 Scholarship Application. A fully completed application must be submitted to be considered for any scholarship award. For your convenience there are two versions available: Online or Printed.

Guidelines

The Philadelphia Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi® Fraternity is seeking to enhance higher educational opportunities for qualified graduates. It is our desire that through financial assistance, some young men of color, who may not otherwise be afforded the opportunity, might gain advanced educational training. Further, it is our hope that with this education, the individual will be able and obliged to contribute to the betterment of the region, the country, and indeed the world.

Award Availability

The following scholarships will be awarded in 2024:

  • Ramon C. Gregory Scholarship
  • Dr. Melvin Jackson, Sr. Family Scholarship

Award Eligibility Requirements

The Applicant must:

  1. Be accepted by a four year accredited college or university. Special consideration for qualified applicants who will attend accredited professional education institution.
  2. Have at least a “C” average (2.0 on a 4.0 scale).

Scholarship Award Declaration

  1. Selected candidate must submit proof of college matriculation in order to receive the onetime award payment.
  2. The student will be alerted by mail

Method of Selecting Awardees

  1. The applications will be forwarded to the chairman of the Scholarship Committee, to be received not later than the published deadline date.
  2. Potential candidates will be contacted by the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter’s Scholarship Committee as to a possible interview. (Candidates will be notified of the date, time & location by mail.)
  3. Scholarship winners and their high schools will be notified by postal letter.

Basis of Award

The recipients will be chosen based upon their scholastic achievement, extracurricular activities (in and outside of school), character, personality, leadership qualities, and overall potential for the attainment of a baccalaureate degree.

The Scholarship Committee of the Philadelphia Alumni Chapter defines and implements the program to identify deserving students and programs eligible for scholarship awards.

The Achievement Academy

The Philadelphia Alumni Chapter Achievement Academy is an award winning mentoring program for young men of color from Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Our primary focus is on the development of life skills and educational accomplishments of our young men. The Achievement Academy serves as a vehicle to allow our students to learn about key life related topics that are not incorporated in the traditional school curriculum.

The Achievement Academy has almost 100 enrollees from ages 9 to 18 and provides additional mentoring for young men who matriculate to college and/or the military.

The Academy also sponsors a series of workshops for the parents. The workshop presenters are professionals from the Philadelphia area. The alumni and undergraduate members of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity are also program participants.
